Bible Reading:  Concerning Salvation

We know that all have sinned.

We have charged both Jews and Greeks all with being under sin, as it is written: “There is none righteous, no not one; there is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God.” “They are all gone out of the way, they have together become unprofitable, there is none that does good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:9-12)

There is a price to be paid for sin.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  (Romans 6:23)

God wants us to repent.

[Jesus said] Learn what this means: ‘I want mercy, not sacrifices.’ I’ve come to call sinners, not people who think they have God’s approval.” (Matthew 9:13)

The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.  (2 Peter 3:9)

God loves us.

God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins.  (1 John 4:10)

Christ died for us and wants to save us.

Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God’s love for us.  (Romans 5:8)

The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Romans 6:23)

God is calling us to salvation.

He also called those whom he had already appointed. He approved of those whom he had called, and he gave glory to those whom he had approved of.  (Romans 8:30)

God saves us if we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ.

If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved. By believing you receive God’s approval, and by declaring your faith you are saved.

Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be ashamed.” There is no difference between Jews and Greeks. They all have the same Lord, who gives his riches to everyone who calls on him. So then, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (Romans 10:9-13)

We can know that we are saved.

Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony of God in them. Those who don’t believe God have made God a liar. They haven’t believed the testimony that God has given about his Son. This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in his Son. The person who has the Son has this life. The person who doesn’t have the Son of God doesn’t have this life. I’ve written this to those who believe in the Son of God so that they will know that they have eternal life.  (1 John 5:10-13)
